Cool !!! Main menu background contest !!!

    Hello Nomads,

We need some new content for our steam page and other marketing purposes. And want you to participate on this! We are making a showcase of what is possible to build in Planet Nomads, so we are talking about some megalomaniac builds, being it monumental stationary basis or some clever working or moving creations.

If you want to be featured on our steam page or even the main menu background, please send us the following:
    - A screenshot or a link to your gameplay video with timecode
    - Save game file (we'll probably need to recompose it a little bit and probably remove game GUI).
    - Please also include your testimonial - one or two sentences that describes what do you value on the game the most.

As we are under tight schedule with this, we need you to send it before this Monday (June 11th).

You can post it here or send it to info@planet-nomads.com

    Thank You

If you want to upload saves into this thread, you can press "Go Advanced" button (near the "Post Quick Reply" button)
Then the "Manage Attachements" button appears, which will open the window where you have to insert the saves, as zip files.

includes all the above ...minus the heli carrier...which is giving me issues reloading. Will try to upload that later.

Has this thing too .... biggest rolling base I have made that actually worked well...

    Post North Pole Base

I'm going to post this here because I'm 99% sure my emails haven't sent properly. Sorry about the length of this post, it was originally an email.
So here's my offering of a Planet Nomads megalomaniac build. The North Pole Base (Save File) is a collection of 3 buildings: the main building (factory/accomodation/etc...), the server building (the little one with lots of 'servers'), and the observatory/landing pad. It's not really huge, but I've packed it full of details and there's some good screenshots to be found here.

Overview of the base. Those are magical solar cells that don't need much sunlight! :D (This is about as light as it gets at the north pole)

Inside the observatory. Enjoying the new coloured lighting.

Main building and server room. This is my favourite of the screenshots I took, though if I'd been a second earlier it wouldn't have been snowing & the sun shafts would've looked great.

Inside the main building. Lots of crates for easy storage and nomading.

An interesting consequence of a base at the north pole is the perpetual twilight which makes the surroundings seem even more inhospitable than they look already.
What do I like about Planet Nomads? Well I like creative games and I love the Sci-fi setting. Also, it's DRM free so I bought it over others (I found it when it was released on GOG). Also, you guys are great at taking feedback and improving the game - which is very important when making a good game.

Speaking of feedback, some ideas and such that I thought of while building this:
    1. The interior corners don't seem to place properly, it's difficult to explain but you'll get what I mean if you build a cross or 'L' shaped building like above.
    2. Placing stuff can be a little difficult (But it's still pretty good).
    3. I know your working on decorative blocks, but I'll ask for aerials/tables/chairs/more walls and doors/etc... anyway.
    4. I think you know this too, but weather sound effects are still very weird in buildings.
    5. Full RGB colour picker (please)
    6. Coloured lights: YES! Thank you!

Now we can lock the rotors...I have been able to iron the bugs out of my torsion bar suspension prototytpe....making it compact enough to work like a wanted with decent travel. The test rig easily climbed the seriously steep hill on m,y test map. One of those slopes where it stops being grass....

So I figured ...for the contest....I would scale up. Big. Big to the point where if I made it bigger, I started to get slowdowns. Probably due to the fact that each rotor creates a sub-grid....and with 10 sets per side and 4 rows, I had 40 subgrids on rotors. Still climbs the hill, but not as well. Power to weight/grip....buy hey. No need to worry about Godillos in this.....

As the suspension 'droops' over dips and just uses springs on compression, the wheels ripple over the ground and stay in contact far better. Gives traction...and looks cool! Just drive her over undulating ground and watch the wheels follow the terrain.

What do I value most in the game:
I enjoy the exploration and mining, building up a safe base with all the supplies I need, and then building something huge to explore the planet. It's about pregression and building in survival mode.

    Oooh.....

You guys take better screenshots than me

The torsion bar rolling base looks very mean and moody.... and I really like the second picture of the flying strip miner.

    thanks for including them

Showing players creation as a background in the game could be a continuous process, to allow the new comers to participate too.
And you could comment on the screenshots, posted casually by them on the forums, asking if you are allowed to place them into the game.

@Menzagitat ... the players would need to be contacted as all the shots included in the start screens were actually done by the devs. They can turn off all the screen clutter ( which we can't ) and also watermark and do a bit of post processing to clean the images up and make them fit what's wanted.

The end result is a screenshot far better than the ones we can take. I suspect they can also dress the scene with game assets to get nice tree/hill backdrops for the creation.

We had to send them the game save with the build in it for inclusion rather than just a picture. They then posed the shot, set up the game lighting and took the snaps. Comes out looking a whole lot better than I could have got it without waiting hours for just the right time of day and piece of random terrain to make a nice picture.

But yes...I think 'new talent' should get added periodically to the slideshow set. It's a tiny amount of game space and would encourage new players to build things on a more complex, convoluted , huge scale. It's also a good way to showcase what can be done with the tools in the games arsenal.

Submission to background main menu contest

well I got the photo to work but I'm having a problem trying to figure out how to get the game file downloaded and uploaded as you guys ask for but as far as the third requirement the reason I value what I do on the game, well its simple honestly. I value the not only the lovely looks of the game of the whole building aspect of it. I got it 2 days ago (6/26/2018) and have been highly addicted to it (even if mobs glitch into my base and kill me making me walk halfway across the planet lol).
