Ladders are just plain convenient. Yes, we have jet packs, but we still spend more time walking with our feet, on the ground, than we do jet-packing around.

I have rotated stairs to create a ladder, if I remember correctly it work OK. (It was a long time ago)
Ladders would be nice, but what I would really love would be a switchboard controlled elevator.
Great idea, but once we have stairs, the survival mode will likely punish us with head injuries if we keep jetpackig indoors.
